Mary faced an uncertain future. An unwed mother …
How would she explain it?
They were obstacles to overcome.
She would be an outcast, alone.
And yet, … “the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid. You have found favor with God.'”
The angel said, “The Lord is with you.”
The angel also said, “…nothing is impossible with God.”
Anxiety, and yet filled with a sense of peace and joy.
She would never be alone. The Lord was with her.
The Gospel of Matthew continues by saying, “at that time, Mary got ready and hurried” to visit her relative Elisabeth, a journey of perhaps three days. While her mind was filled with questions, her heart was filled with compassion. Her first thought was to reach out, to offer support and encouragement to someone else.
We too are facing uncertain days ahead. COVID imposed isolation and self-regulated quarantine have caused a break down in our usual pathways to connections with others. We sense a growing anxiety caused by fear and uncertainty. Many in our church family are responding with compassion to the often silent effects of COVID in our community. People are reaching out, sharing life in new and creative ways. Investing their time and energy in the lives of others to encourage support through the message that they are not alone.
A new ministry is seeking to connect with these women who may be experiencing a growing sense of isolation. It aims to create and nurture relationships, encouraging transparency through genuine care and prayer.
If you are a woman who is missing that sense of connection, please call.
Women’s Care Network also needs women who are able and willing to connect with other women. If you hear God’s call, please phone Liz Demens at 250-463-3211.
“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21
